Who is Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas?
Born on June 23, 1948, Clarence Thomas was raised in Pin Point, Georgia.
After attending St Pius X High School, Thomas transferred to St John Vianney’s Minor Seminary.
He went on to study at Conception Seminary College, before enrolling at the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts.
In 1974, Thomas received his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School.
After passing the bar exam, Thomas worked as the Assistant Attorney General of Missouri.
He went on to work as a legislative assistant for the Senate Commerce Committee, before joining the Reagan administration as Assistant Secretary of Education for the Office of Civil Rights in the US Department of Education.
Thomas then worked as chairman of the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
On October 30, 1989, Thomas was appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit by former President George HW Bush.
Two years later, in October of 1991, Thomas was sworn into the United States Supreme Court.
What happened to him?
According to a tweet from Ed O’Keefe of CBS News, the justice “was hospitalized Friday with ‘flu-like symptoms.'”
The tweet continued: “A Court spokeswoman tells [Jan Crawford] the hospitalization is not Covid related.”
A press release attached to the tweet reads: “Justice Clarence Thomas was admitted to Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., on Friday evening after experiencing flu-like symptoms.
“He underwent tests, was diagnosed with an infection and is being treated with intravenous antibiotics.
“His symptoms are abating, he is resting comfortably, and he expects to be released from the hospital in a day or two.”
The statement continued: “Justice Thomas will participate in the consideration and discussion of any cases for which he is not present on the basis of the briefs, transcripts, and audio of the oral arguments.”
Almost a week later on March 25, 2022, Justice Thomas was discharged from the Washington DC hospital he was admitted to.
Is Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas married?
Clarence Thomas married his wife, Ginni, in 1987.
Born on February 23, 1957, Ginni Thomas is a native of Nebraska.
In 1979, Thomas earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Business Communication, followed by a Juris Doctor four years later.
She became an attorney and labor relationships specialist at the United States Chamber of Commerce in 1985.
She began working at the Legislative Affairs Office of the United States Department of Labor in the 1990s, joining the Heritage Foundation in 2000.
In 2009, Thomas founded the nonprofit lobbying group for conservative activists known as Liberty Central.
